Trust and Learning about Others

I am insatiably curious about people. I am genuinely interested in their personal story, the work they

choose and especially how they arrived at today. It is tempting to see only the success of others. However, when you enter into relationship with others, you learn that where they are today is a culmination of many experiences both positive and negative. Failure was their companion as well as good fortune, persistence, grace, and the assistance of many other people. To really know another person, a wise colleague shared that the key is building trust. What is visible on the outside may be all we get at first. However, once we invest time listening to others, and they learn that we genuinely care for their whole person do they begin to trust us. It is then they will choose to share what the parts of their identity that are visible only on the inside.
